Tasty Tradition: The Semla
Let us take you to the heart of Swedish yumminess culture - the Semla!
You see, the Semla isn't just a pastry, it's a slice of Nordic history served on a plate. Back in the days, on Shrove Tuesday, folks devoured Semlas like there was no tomorrow - a final indulgence before Lent kicked in. Wait, did we say “back in the days”? It’s actually pretty much the same tradition today, although there might be fewer Semla Lovers eating less after Shrove Tuesday…
So, what’s a Semla?
Glad you’re asking! The Semla is a cardamom-flavoured wheat bun with almond paste, topped with a cloud of whipped cream and powdered sugar. Simply put, it’s a baked piece of love that tastes like a sweet hug.
Swedish roots, plant-based.
Our very own Espresso House Semla carries a tasty tradition into the future, showing up as a fully vegan version that tastes just as good (actually, even better) than the classic original! That cardamom bun? Vegan. The almond paste that dreams are made of? Vegan. Even the fluffy whipped cream? Yep, vegan.
