What we promise

At Espresso House, sustainability is embedded across every decision we make as a company. Our promise is that we’ll always take steps today, to secure a better tomorrow for our guests, our communities, our people, and our planet.

From Crop to Cup

We know that you care about how the coffee you drink is grown, processed, and sourced. We also know that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for the challenges faced by farms worldwide that produce that coffee. We believe that the best way to help farmers is to invest in them. Improvements to a supply chain do not happen overnight. They take time, dedication, and resources.

That is why we have partnered with Enveritas, an independent nonprofit organization, to assess sustainability issues in our supply chain.

Enveritas works to provide roasters, farmers, consumers, and other stakeholders with a deeper understanding of the most challenging issues facing today’s coffee producers. Our green coffee buyer, Jonas Hult, visits a number of the farms from which we source coffee each year.

We ensure we know where and how our coffee has been grown

Our Coffee

We source the majority of our world-class, speciality coffee from South and Central America.

In 2024, Espresso House Group sourced coffee from eleven different countries, and we brewed over 7,5 million cups of specialty graded drip coffee to our guests. To us, coffee is not only about the perfectly brewed cup. It's just as much about our coffee farmers, the people who grow and nurture it.

Animal Welfare

Cage-free Eggs

While we have made great strides in expanding our plant-based offerings, we know that some of our most beloved products still contain meat and poultry. Animal welfare remains a top priority in our supply chain. We are committed to sourcing whole eggs and egg ingredients from cage-free hens and have set a goal to achieve 100% cage-free sourcing by 2025.

We are proud to share that by the end of 2022, all the whole eggs we used were already sourced from cage-free environments. This milestone is a testament to our dedication to ethical practices and ensuring high standards of animal welfare throughout our supply chain.

European Chicken Commitment

As part of our ambition to offer our guests a good dining experience, we have decided to partner with European Chicken Commitment by 2026. This applies to all the chicken we serve. In addition, at least 20% of all chicken we serve in 2026 will come from outdoor environments. European Chicken Commitment (ECC).

We endorse the European Chicken Commitment (ECC).

Transition to renewable energy: We expanded solar power at our bakery and powered our roastery with biogas and hydropower.

Completed double materiality assessment: We identified our most material ESG issues in alignment with CSRD and ESRS requirements, strengthening the direction of our sustainability efforts.

Reduced food waste: By rescuing 304,885 meals throughout the year, we avoided 663 tons of CO₂e emissions.

Supplier sustainability evaluation: In collaboration with Enveritas, we assessed sustainability performance across our entire coffee supply chain - from farm to cup.
