Working as a Host

Meet Gilbert

Host at Waves shopping center, Denmark

Host

What are your main tasks as a Host?

- My job as Host is quite broad. I am both at the cash desk, where I take orders from guests. I clean tables and do the dishes. In addition, I help prepare food for our food monters and solve various cleaning tasks in the coffee shop.

What made you choose Espresso House?

- I used to work at a supermarket but I was looking for a place to work with a more "buzzing" atmosphere. At Espresso House, I'm always busy and I'm rarely left without something to do. I like being in contact with the guests and having good colleagues in the coffee shop. The nice colleagues is one the reasons for me staying. There's a great community here that I've already settled into well. I think it's important that everyone gets along and that we have fun together.

What have you learned from working at Espresso House?

- I quickly learned that it's an advantage to have a good overview. I already feel that I have gained that. When orders come in from guests, you have to coordinate cold and hot drinks as well as the food to be served. All this happens at a fast pace, as it has to go out to many guests.

When was the last time you laughed at work - and what was it about?

- I never think there is a bad atmosphere in the coffee shop. There is always room for laughter and fun stories. I notice that people care about each other and everyone makes an effort to have a good time.

What is the best thing about working at Espresso House?

- There's something to do all the time on your shift, which I'm happy about. You don't get bored. Time flies when you have fun and something to do.

If you had to describe Espresso House in one word, what would it be?

- Efficient - It's important that everyone makes an effort and works efficiently. I think there is a good focus on how we can constantly improve and give the guest a better experience. If everyone doesn't work efficiently, then it's to the detriment of the next person who turns up, and you don't want that.
